Westside Railroad Trail

Overview: Located along an old railroad grade near Tuolumne City, this 10.5 mile out-and-back trail is easily accessible and includes less than 150 ft of elevation gain. The railroad grade was constructed in the 1890’s for the purpose of hauling timber to a local lumber mill, and its historical significance is highlighted by interpretive signage along the trail. Beautiful wildflowers are on display in the springtime, and views of the North Fork Tuolumne River can be found along the trail. 

Notes: The interpretive section of the trail ends around the 3.0 mile mark, beyond which the trail is less traveled. The trail can be popular with hikers, runners, cyclists, and horseback riders, particularly in the spring season. With little shade, the trail may be too hot to hike on warm summer days.
