Preston Falls Trail

Overview: This moderate 7.5-mile out and back trail travels along part of the Tuolumne River and ends at the large pool below Preston Falls. The trailhead can be accessed from the Kirkwood Powerhouse on Forest Road 1N07. The trail passes through conifers, oaks and meadows, and there are spots to enjoy the pools and small falls along the river.


Notes: The pool formed at the base of the falls makes for a great swimming hole and picnic spot. Weather in the summer can be hot, and the final stretch of the trail is relatively unshaded, so be sure to bring enough water and consider hiking early in the day before the sun is high. Keep an eye out for poison oak.
