Valley Water Drops Lawsuit Over Bay Delta Plan

In early 2019, shortly after Valley Water (formerly Santa Clara Valley Water District) sued the State Water Board over the Bay Delta Plan, TRT issued a warning. Valley Water would have trouble passing future tax measures without support from the environmental community.

Our opportunity to ramp up our campaign came in June 2020, when Valley Water announced they would go back to the voters in November. TRT pulled together a coalition of 20 environmental and fishing groups, drafted a sign-on letter outlining our concerns about the District’s poor environmental track record, and mobilized our supporters to speak at meetings.

We were successful. Valley Water not only agreed to drop their litigation over the Bay Delta Plan, but also to enter into mediation with the Regional Water Board over another anti-environmental lawsuit, and to accelerate a program aimed at restoring fish populations in Santa Clara County.
