The future of the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary is at a critical moment — and public voices matter more than ever.
Please join Yosemite Rivers Alliance, Sierra Club, Restore the Delta, Save California Salmon, and Friends of the River for an online speaker training to prepare for the upcoming State Water Board hearing on January 28–30, focused on Phase 2 of the Bay-Delta Water Quality Control Plan.
This hearing represents one of the last, best opportunities to influence a 15-year process aimed at restoring the deeply impacted Bay-Delta ecosystem and the rivers that sustain it. While supposedly grounded in science, this process is also highly political — and strong public participation can make a real difference.
What This Training Is For
You do not need to be a technical expert to speak at the hearing. You simply need to care.
This training will:
Explain what to expect at the State Water Board hearing
Walk through how public comments work and why they matter
Share key messages and themes you can draw from
Help you feel confident and prepared to speak
Confirm how to participate online from home or work
Many past participants say that speaking at a hearing is not only impactful, but deeply meaningful. Your voice can help shape the future of California’s rivers, salmon, and communities.
Why This Matters
The Bay-Delta is the heart of California’s water system. Decisions made now will affect:
River flows and water quality
Salmon and native fish survival
Delta communities, tribes, and ecosystems
The health of rivers across the state
The California State Water Resources Control Board needs to hear directly from the people who care about these places.
Who Should Attend
River and salmon advocates
Community members and concerned residents
Anyone who wants to protect California’s waterways
First-time speakers are strongly encouraged
